October Round-Up Part 1

Whilst I love writing articles for my readers sometimes other people say things just a little bit better than me! Or at least are better placed to say them! So here’s my round-up of the blog, stories and articles you might have missed of the last couple of weeks.

Did Jiu Jitsu Cause Domestic Violence? – Jiu Jolie
This blog isn’t an easy read but it’s an important one. It’s written by a grappler who I know and who personally inspired me in regards to stepping up and competing at a World and International level. She is an amazingly strong women both on and off the mat and I’m sharing this not just to raise awareness but also to send minion love and support.

Black Belts are Douchbags too – BJJ Globetrotters
There has been a higher number of cases coming out over the last couple of years re sexual harassment and black belts generally abusing their position of authority. So it’s great to see a large affiliation speaking out and making a stance.

Electrolyte-Infused Brews and Race Day IPAs: Inside the Brave New World of Sports Beer – Vinepair.com
Today I’m on the way back from California and I may have enjoyed a couple of craft brewed beers during my time away, So what better time to share this article about the new generation of Sports Beers!

The ultimate manual on how to roll/ drill with women. – MF Connection
I spotted this a few weeks ago but haven’t had a chance to share it. A great little piece from Manuel Flores about rolling with women. It doesn’t doesn’t say anything particularly new but still a nice piece.

Are Humans Nutritious? – Newsweek
A random but enjoyable article exploring the nutritional value of humans. Basically whilst a grappler may be tasty on the mat – it doesn’t make them a good dinner choice lol!

What I’m listening too
“You Shall Not Pass” – DJJ Globetrotter vs Chris Haueter REMIX
I’ve already shared this via my facebook page but the BJJ Globetrotter Christian Graugart has been playing with some DJ-ing and remix. His first effort features the fabulous Chris Haueter (and the five golden rules of BJJ.

Technical Takeaway
Whilst I’ve been away I’ve had the pleasure of visiting Street Sports Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and I’ll blog about my experience in a few weeks – but until then here’s a little video of head coach Renato Magno showing an Omoplata attack.
