June Catch-Up Part 2

Whilst I love writing articles for my readers sometimes other people say things just a little bit better than me! Or at least are better placed to say them! So here’s my round-up of the blog, stories and articles you might have missed of the last couple of weeks or I just think you might find useful!

BJJ, Violence, Martial Arts, and Western v. Eastern Philosophy – Grappling Insider – An article looking a the difference between western and eastern approaches to martial arts.

Being Yourself in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu – Holistic Budo – A blog less about being yourself but more about encouraging you to make personal choices.

Dear diary: F**k being comfortable – Grassroots Grappler – A blog that I haven’t spotted before that is written by a bunch of grapplers of all varieties.

Recent studies examine whether chokes can lead to brain trauma and CTE – Bloody Elbow – Two studies claim choking can lead to CTE, but each has been met with skepticism from within the medical science community.

What I’m listening to….
A newish podcast on the scene is Beauty and the Gi – a female perspective on BJJ from a US based purple and white belt. I’ve only gotten into a few episodes but I tend to stick with it for a while.

Technical Takeaway
I’m extremely lucky that John Will visits not just the UK but my gym Factory BJJ pretty much every year. Regardless of the topic there is always some little detail that I take away and add to my game. So this weeks takeaway is a “basic” close guard break that full of little technical bits and pieces to enjoy!
